Maritime Canada -
fascinating mix of experiences and scenery
This is the name commonly given to the three provinces of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick
and Prince Edward Island. Each is distinctive in its own right, but when amalgamated into
one holiday they provide an interesting mix of experiences and scenery.

Why choose Maritime Canada?
Throughout the area you are never far from
the sea: long coastlines, interesting bays and
fascinating beaches. You will find a warm welcome
here and the locals still find plenty of time to stop
and talk and share their experiences. The earlier
settlers were the English, Scots, Irish and French
and what we see today is an amalgam of their cultures, together with that of the first nation’s
people who were the earliest inhabitants of the
area. It is an interesting mix: food, music and dance
play a large part in their culture even today. It is
strange to think there are more schools teaching
the bagpipes in Nova Scotia than in the whole of
Scotland.
The countryside is interesting and varied.
The extensive orchards, sugar bush (for maple
syrup production), the potato fields of PEI and
large wooded areas produce a landscape that is
an amalgamation of Devon and Cornwall,
Ireland and Scotland.
The early immigrants and visitors alike landed at
the ports of Halifax and St John’s New Brunswick
and they have some of the most extensive history
and heritage in Canada. In the early days the
British fought the French for control of these
“new” lands and even today the English fort,
The Citadel, in Halifax and the French fort,
Fort Louisburg, are amongst the most
visited attractions.
Many people have grown to love the interesting
mix of accommodation: some grand historic
hotels in the major towns, some smaller
lodges, many offering an exceptional
cuisine, and some Bed & Breakfast’s,
or indeed some out of the way fishing
lodges offering yet another dimension
to the accommodation available.
The iconic sightseeing stops in this area are the
UNESCO World Heritage Site at Lunenburg, the
Bay of Fundy with the highest tidal reach in the
world and the Cabot Trail, one of the most exciting
drives in North America.
