Northwest Territories - where the wildlife roams free

One of the largest pristine wilderness areas in Canada, the Northwest Territories is simply breathtaking.
There are opportunities for wildlife viewing almost everywhere - Bring your camera, and get ready for an
unforgettable adventure.

Why choose Northwest Territories?

The scenery is unbelievable the wildlife amazing - choose a guided nature tour in the northern forest or mountains, travel with a wilderness guide through a Barrenland Wildlife Sanctuary or take a tour across the Arctic Tundra. Wood bison, moose, black bear, beaver, muskrat, caribou, grizzly, muskoxen, wolves and marten all call NWT their home.

Nahanni National Park Reserve is an outstanding example of northern wilderness rivers, canyons, gorges and alpine tundra. Designated a World Heritage Site in 1978, the current park, with a total area of 30,000 square km, is centered on the valleys of the South Nahanni and Flat rivers. Here you can also experience the might and thundering waters of Virginia Falls (Nailicho) on the South Nahanni River which is twice the height of Niagara. Dall’s sheep, mountain goats, woodland caribou, wolves, black bears, grizzlies and trumpeter swans, all find refuge in Nahanni.

For the more adventurous travellers one of the most unforgettable and natural spectacles awaits you in The Barrenlands. Every year large herds of Caribou migrate from their winter shelter to their summer calving grounds.

Eating out in the Northwest Territories offer similar adventures with Whitefish fresh from Great Slave Lake a speciality in Hay River and Yellowknife. Other fish entrees include Arctic Char, Pickerel, Lake Trout and Northern Pike. Muskoxen and Bison are also often available and offer something different. They are generally served as tender steaks, tasty stew or speciality burgers.

Accommodation here offers everything including Campsites, Bed & Breakfasts, Hotels, Motels and Wilderness Lodges.

Whatever you choose, wherever you travel in NWT you will return with hundreds of memories and thousands of photographs of this unique and pristine wilderness.
