Prince
Edward Island - the green province
Prince Edward Island is Canada's smallest and greenest province. Cradled
on the waves of the Gulf of St. Lawrence, PEI is known for the vivid
colours of its gently rolling landscape, surrounded by miles of sandy
beaches and red sandstone cliffs.
|
Why choose Prince Edward
Island?
PEI is known as the birthplace of Confederation. In 1864, the provinces
of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario and Québec met in Charlottetown
to form the new nation. It was a richly eventful time. You can relive
the drama by visiting Province House and Founders' Hall, and by joining
any number of tours. But archaeologists have found evidence of early
Mi'kmaq settlement that dates thousands of years before the historic
Charlottetown Conference.
As a visitor to PEI, you can do more than just witness the Island
way of life. You can live it, too. Real experiences and simple pleasures;
being active and relaxed at the same time. Any island is its own unique
world with stories, music, recipes, and skills that are preserved
and passed down for generations. But here you're welcome to take part,
and take home some of PEI's traditions.
When touring Prince Edward Island, you'll see miles of lush rolling
farmlands and coastlines dotted with fishing harbours, so it may not
come as a surprise to discover that the food industry is the single
most important contributor to PEI's economy. PEI is proud of its "clean
and green" reputation world-wide and offers tourists a wonderful
opportunity to "tour and taste" some of the best they have
to offer. On an island where the primary industries are farming and
fishing, fresh is the operative word when it comes to food experiences.
PEI's beaches quite literaly provide am amazing experience. From building
sandcastles, relaxing, taking sunset walks or enjoying a picnic, the
beaches here are magnificent.
Its irregular shape and many bays and inlets, Prince Edward Island
has a long coastline. It has communities with unique flavour, and
secret treasures tucked away and quietly awaiting discovery.
There is much to see and do and a rich history to discover.
