14-day Maritime Canada Fly-Drive
Days 1 & 2 - Halifax
Arrive and transfer to your downtown hotel in Halifax. Visit the fantastic Museum of Immigration depicting the hardships many immigrants endured before reaching their new home in Canada. Take time to explore the star shaped fort, The Citadel. Dine at one of the great seafood restaurants and be sure to visit some of the ‘singing pubs’, reminiscent of Dublin.

Day 3 - Lunenburg
Pick up your rental vehicle and drive along the scenic lighthouse route via Peggy’s Cove, Chester & Mahone Bay to Lunenburg. The fascinating Whaling and Fishing museum enthralls visitors for up to half a day. There are some great lodges/B&B’s and the area is considered the ‘foody’ capital of Nova Scotia.

Day 4 - Digby
Drive across the interior of Nova Scotia to Digby, located on the southside of the Bay of Fundy. If you appreciate good food, you may have heard of Digby scallops. The area is also one of the prime whale watching sites in the province.

Days 5 & 6 - St Andrews
A ferry ride today across the Bay of Fundy to St John. Take time to visit St John before driving south to St Andrews, a delightful fishing and whale watching centre, which offers a realistic chance of seeing a variety of whales.

Day 7 - The Fundy Trail
Retrace your steps northwards and travel the scenic Fundy Trail, which hugs the coastline offering some spectacular views. An option tonight is to spend the night in a remote cabin only accessible by 4x4.

Day 8 - Fundy National Park
Drive to Fundy National Park and spend some time in the Interpretive Centre before going down to Hopewell Rocks, where you can see the effects of the largest tidal range in the world (52 feet as opposed to a worldwide average of 6 feet).

Days 9 & 10 - Prince Edward Island (PEI)
Drive across Confederation Bridge that joins New Brunswick to PEI, one of the longest bridges in the world. Prince Edward Island is famous for Anne of Green Gables and great beaches. It is the home of the Confederation of Canada and McCain’s potato chips.

Day 11 - Cheticamp
This morning you leave PEI by ferry and drive down to Cape Breton Island. Cheticamp is at the start of the iconic drive in this area, the Cabot Trail. It is also one of the other significant destinations to go whale watching in this region.

Days 12 & 13 - Baddeck
Your morning starts with a drive round the Cabot Trail, stunning in any season but particularly when the Autumn colours are prevalent. Baddeck is the centre of Cape Breton, the home of Alexander Graham Bell and the first transatlantic phone call and is convenient to visit Fort Louisbourg, the French fort in this area.

Day 14 - Homeward bound
It is a 3 hour drive from Baddeck to Halifax Airport, but most flights depart in the evening.
