VIA RAIL SERVICES
FIVE DIFFERENT JOURNEYS OF A LIFETIME – IN ONE COUNTRY
It is no exaggeration to say that Canada was welded into a country by the advent of the railway. It has knitted the nation from one side to the other and VIA Rail still operates over 430 trains every single day.
The trains may be briefly described as the following:
- THE CANADIAN —The Classic Journey
Perhaps better described as a land cruise from Toronto to Vancouver, across the Prairies and through the majestic Rocky Mountains. Operates three times a week and prices in Silver and Blue class include accommodation and food.
- THE SKEENA — The Rockies Explored
VIA Rail’s two day, 725 mile journey from Jasper to Prince Rupert. This train requires an overnight stay in Prince George.
- THE OCEAN — French Quebec and Atlantic Canada
The train between Montreal and Halifax provides a convenient link to Atlantic Canada and a route, which has proven to be increasingly popular. It allows a stopover in Quebec City.
-
THE POLAR BEAR EXPRESS —The name says it all The Polar Bear Express travels the remote route from Winnipeg to Churchill and early booking on this route is required in the peak polar bear season.
-
THE CORRIDOR SERVICES — Leave the car behind
VIA Rail offers a very extensive multi-daily service in the heavily populated area between Windsor, Ontario, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and Quebec City. It is possible to have a holiday without driving in this area by utilising the train services.
