Rocky Mountaineer Railtours

About the journey

About sixteen years ago Via Rail Canada decided to cease passenger service between Vancouver and Calgary. This part of the Trans Canada railway journey was always considered one of the finest in Canada and amongst the best in the world. The Rocky Mountaineer Railroad Company was formed to duplicate the service and they took the opportunity to add some innovations and improvements to the existing rail journey.

The most important of these was that the service was re-timed and an overnight stay in Kamloops was built into the schedule. This ensured that no part of the journey was undertaken in the dark missing the opportunity to see the wonderful and ever changing scenery along the route. For the early part of its journey the railroad hugs the Fraser River as it climbs from Vancouver to Kamloops. On the second day the true Rocky Mountain grandeur and majesty of the mountains, glaciers and mountain rivers fills your view at every turn.

The Rocky Mountaineer offers a wonderful opportunity to experience the Canadian Rockies from a train. The wildlife along the route have got used to the train traffic and the railway journey affords a wonderful opportunity to see wildlife such as bear, moose, wolves, coyotes etc. close to the railroad track.

The price includes comfortable accommodation on the train, transfers backwards and forwards to your hotel in Kamloops and a boxed breakfast and lunch served at your seat each day on the train.

Upgrade to Gold Leaf Service

Gold Leaf Service has the advantages of exclusive use of the dome car throughout the journey, superior seating arrangements, a cooked breakfast and superior lunch serviced in the dining room and upgrade overnight accommodation in Kamloops.
