Via Rail Canada - see Canada by train, five journeys of a lifetime
It is no exaggeration to say that Canada was welded into a country by the
advent of the railway. It has knitted the nation from one side to the other and
VIA Rail still operates over 450 trains every single day. The trains may be briefly
described as the following:
The Canadian - The Classic Journey
Perhaps better described as a land cruise from Toronto to Vancouver, across the Prairies
and through the majestic Rocky Mountains. Operates three times a week and prices in
Silver and Blue class include accommodation and food.
The Skeena - The Rockies Explored
VIA Rail's two day, 725 mile journey from Jasper to Prince Rupert.
This train requires an overnight stay in Prince George.
The Ocean - French Québec And Atlantic Canada
The train between Montréal and Halifax provides a convenient link to Atlantic Canada and
a route which has proven to be increasingly popular. It allows a stopover in Québec City.
The Polar Bear Express - The Name Says It All
The Polar Bear Express travels the remote route from Winnipeg to Churchill and
early booking is required in the peak polar bear season - October and November.
The Corridor Services - Leave The Car Behind
VIA Rail offers a very extensive multi-daily service in the heavily populated area between
Windsor, Ontario, Toronto, Ottawa, Montréal and Québec City. It is possible to have a
holiday without driving in this area by utilising the train services.

Enhance your holiday by incorporating a Via Rail train journey
Atlantic Canada and Québec
Fly to Halifax and do a fly drive in Atlantic Canada or join our Maritime
Magic escorted tour. Then use the overnight Ocean train to Québec
City, spend a few nights, then continue on the Ocean to Montréal.
You can then fly home directly from Montréal.
Ontario and Québec
Rail Triangle
For those not wishing to drive; consider flying to Toronto, where
you can experience the city and take a day trip to Niagara Falls before
taking the train to the nation's capital, Ottawa. From Ottawa it is
a short train journey to Montréal.
The Trans Canada Train
One of the great rail journeys of the world enables you to enjoy both
Eastern and Western Canada. Taking four days to complete from Toronto
to Vancouver, the train travels through the Northern lakeland of Ontario,
across rolling Prairies, through the majestic Rocky Mountains and
on to the Pacific Ocean and the city of Vancouver.
Boats, Trains and the
Icefield Parkway Tour
This tour is featured in our Escorted Tour
section and incorporates the train journey on the
majestic Skeena train. For those who don't want to
drive, but cannot fit in with the departure dates
of this particular tour, it is possible for us to
tailor make this trip.
What about price?
Via Rail operates over 450 trains per day and has
a complex system of pricing that incorporates rail
passes and advanced purchase fares. There are some substantial discounts available for seniors and students on
the Via Rail services.
|
VIA Rail offers two types of pass:
CORRIDOR PASS
The Corridor Pass is restricted
to travel between Québec City and
Windsor, Ontario and incorporates
Toronto, Ottawa and Montréal.
CANRAILPASS
The Canrail Pass gives unrestricted
use of the whole system, but does
not allow pre-booking of sleeping
accommodation on the trains.
We would be pleased to work with you
to see how best the train can be
incorporated into your overall journey.
