Days 1 & 2 - Whitehorse
Arrive Whitehorse, the capital of the Yukon and
home of 2/3 of the population. Visit the fantastic
Visitor Centre to help prepare you for your trip and
spend time at the Beringia Museum.
Day 3 - The Silver Trail
The area around Mayo is known as the Silver Trail,
where vast quantities of silver were previously
mined. Keno City (population 20) is the centre of
the area.
Days 4 & 5 - Dawson City
Dawson city was the centre of the Gold Rush. Test
your luck at gold panning, visit the restored Dredge
No. 4, listen to the poetry of Robert Service outside
his cabin, try your luck at Diamond Tooth Gerties
gambling hall or visit the Follies for an evening’s
entertainment.
Day 6 - Top of the World Highway
Cross the Yukon River by ferry and travel across one
of North America’s scenic roads. Beautiful scenery,
fascinating “Alpine style” plants and enter the USA
via one of the most unusual entry points anywhere.
In Tok take a look at the year round dog sledding
demonstrations. Note: if you are following our 7
day Alaska extension you will head northwards at
this point and rejoin later in the itinerary.
Day 7 - Kluane National Park
Travel through one of the world’s most spectacular
scenic experiences, Kluane National Park. North
America’s largest glaciers, common sightings
of mountain goats and Dall sheep and regular
sightings of grizzly and black bear, plus lots of
moose as well! A gastronomic surprise tonight at a
restaurant in Haines Junction with a fantastic view.
Day 8 - Haines
Haines is famous for its eagle population as it is
one of the few places where the water doesn’t
freeze in the winter allowing the eagles to fish and
not fly south. A strong salmon presence also makes
it a favourite habitat for bears!
Days 9 & 10 - Juneau
Take the ferry to Juneau, Alaska’s capital, and visit
the Mendenhall Glacier, possible excursions to
either Tracey Arm and Sawyer Glacier, or Glacier
Bay - excellent whale watching and sightseeing en
route.
Days 11 & 12 - Skagway
Ferry to Skagway, a fascinating town, follow the
Gold Rush route and ride the Yukon & Whitepass
Railroad, one of the top five rail journeys in the
world.
Day 13 - Whitehorse
Drive back to Whitehorse for one night at Inn on
the Lake.
Day 14 - Homeward Bound
Retrace your steps today via Vancouver to London.
